The CajaGranada Cultural Center hosted on April 22, 2022 the presentation of the Friends of the Vega Awards 2022, awards that recognize the best practices in the care of the Vega Granadina. The event was attended by Manuel Montoya, coordinator of VegaEduca; the director of CajaGranada Foundation, Fernando Bueno; the mayor of Granada, Francisco Cuenca; the mayor of Atarfe, Pedro Martínez; the mayor of Los Guájares, Antonio Mancilla; and the councilor of the City of Granada, José Antonio Huertas, among others.
Manuel Montoya welcomed all participants and authorities and opened the event with the traditional reading of the manifesto in favor of the Vega de Granada, by students from several schools in the city. Subsequently, the 2022 edition of the Friends of the Vega Awards was presented by different institutional representatives.
For his part, Fernando Bueno pointed out that “CajaGranada Foundation will always be on the side of the initiatives that participate in the care of the planet”. “In these facilities is the monolith that marks the Centro Cultural CajaGranada, where we are, as Km. 0 of the Vega de Granada, witness of the commitment of this house with the environment in which it is located,” he added.
Similarly, Francisco Cuenca, has shown his appreciation to the association Salvemos la Vega – VegaEduca and stressed “the importance of caring for nature so that future generations can enjoy the same things we have enjoyed”. Likewise, he has asked for help to the young students, present there, to “transfer this environmental awareness to all citizens”.
The Friends of the Vega Awards 2022 have gone to the professor of the University of Granada and coordinator of the project life Wood for Future Antolino Gallego, for the study and promotion of agricultural and environmental resources of the Vega of Granada and the promotion of its revitalization and sustainable development; IFAPA Granada technicians María de los Ángeles Ripoll and Francisco Bruno Navarro, for their ongoing commitment to advising and supporting entrepreneurs and farmers in the Vega de Granada; and the organization Sustainable Atarfe, for its work and commitment to community environmental education for the citizens of Atarfe so that they feel part of the environmental solution and have respect for nature as one of their life axes.
