After 18 months of work, the LIFE Wood for Future project has exceeded 4,000 attendees at project events and 300 news items in the written or digital press. The poplar, the tree of the people, was also the protagonist in the Inaugural Lecture of the Academic Year at the University of Granada in September 2022. A success in terms of dissemination and impact that is also endorsed by important milestones such as the creation of a Public Certified Plant Nursery, the promotion of three private nurseries, the creation of the Marjal Owners Group and demonstration plots, a high level of progress in the development of the Poplar Grove Management Plan, a high level of compliance with the mechanical characterization of poplar for its entry into the standard and the new structural products.
Thanks to strategic collaborations with AVRA, the Rodiñas Group, IFAPA, ACP-Granada, the Association of Forest Owners of Eastern Andalusia, AFA-Profor, the General Directorate of Forestry Policy and the General Secretariat of Industry and Mines, significant progress has been made on construction, forestry and industrial policies at the Andalusian level in order to successfully launch a new industrial ecosystem for construction with local timber.
Likewise, thanks to the collaboration with Salvemos la Vega-Vega Educa and the Finca de la Nocla, the values of the Vega, the poplar, the trees and the wood have been disseminated to the public, especially among secondary school students. Also noteworthy is the work done by the Diputación de Granada in preparing a Restoration Project for the River Dílar and the advice given to the town councils involved to tackle this action, which is more than necessary for the recovery of this deteriorated area. There are still two and a half years of exciting progress ahead!
The 9th edition of the LIFE Wood For Future Newsletter is now available, where you can consult the latest news of the project.
