Madrid, January 15, 2025.
Global warming and climate change are a reality. In our country, torrential rains are 12% more intense and twice as likely now, compared to the pre-industrial climate, warns the latest analysis of the World Weather Attribution, a world reference group of experts on climate change. According to the Opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee on ‘Timber construction to reduce CO2 in the building sector’, construction with this material can avoid up to 40% of CO2 emissions compared to concrete.
Therefore, in this fifth edition, the International Forum on Wood Construction returns with the aim, not only to raise awareness and explore the opportunities and possibilities of wood as a sustainable alternative for construction, but also as a meeting point for companies, institutions and professionals, with presentations, international reference projects and an exhibition area for companies in the sector.
New features of the 5th edition
Five blocks structure the program of the 2025 edition during May 14 and 15 at the Pamplona Conference Center; where topics such as: ‘Do we have enough wood to build?’, ‘Wood and the sustainable city: designing and building with wood’, among others, will be addressed. One of the highlights of this edition will be urban densification and energy rehabilitation, as this is an important tool in the fight against climate change. In this regard, the congress will feature leading professionals who will present current projects that demonstrate the important role that wood can play in the regeneration of urban centers.
For its part, the ‘New horizons for building with wood’ block will address recent innovative projects, such as the ‘Library of the Thousand Suns of Madrid’, located in the neighborhood of Villaverde, with a total surface area of more than 2,500 square meters, the work of architect Miguel Ángel Díaz Camacho. A construction that integrates solutions of maximum environmental commitment such as natural ventilation and lighting, the use of wooden structures, the use of renewable energies such as photovoltaic solar energy and geothermal energy, and the integration of landscaping with the public space. Under the same block, the Forum will present the Oceanika Project, designed by Bakpak Architects and EOVASTUDIO. The architect Juan José Baena will explain the project, with more than 15,000 square meters for coliving, 180 apartments and common areas that will include a swimming pool and gymnasium. A complex that will become the largest wooden construction in our country, which also comes from sustainably managed forests and certified by the PEFC and FSC.
