The ETS of the School of Building Engineering hosted yesterday afternoon, March 15, the third working meeting for the constitution of the group, organized by COSE and the UGR, which was attended by about 40 poplar grove owners in the province. During the meeting, the Communication Company Jasten Fröjen, specialist in the forestry sector, by means of a participatory strategy, collected first-hand all the information from the attending owners about their feelings and expectations regarding poplar plantations and timber. With this valuable information, the company will prepare the corporate image of the future Association in the coming weeks. Progress was also made on the Statutes, which are almost ready for final approval. As provisional headquarters of the Association, the generous offer of the IFAPA-Camino del Purchil to locate it in its facilities was accepted, pending the possible option of locating it in the San Isidro Sugar Factory, recently acquired by the University of Granada. Finally, volunteers were requested for the Board of Directors of the Association, more adhesions were collected as well as the necessary documentation for its constitution. The next meeting is scheduled for the beginning of April.
The breakfast was attended by Yaiza Fuentes, a researcher from the UIMA-University of Granada laboratory, a recent doctor who has carried out the mandatory mechanical tests to incorporate poplar into the Spanish and European structural wood standards. During the debate, Yaiza Fuentes spoke about the progress of the project and the importance of the University as an agent to give added value to poplar trees and their wood.
