Generating synergies with the Municipal Chamber of Évora.
Networking day between the projects LIFE Água da Prata and LIFE EcoTimberCell and LIFE Wood for Future, taking advantage of the visit of the environmental technician of the City Council of Évora to the PEMADE facilities at the Campus Terra of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
The visit was framed in the exchange of experiences of LIFE projects, to publicize initiatives to mitigate or adapt to climate change. In the case of LIFE Água da Prata, the actions to promote pilot works of adaptation to climate change for the use of the aqueduct of Évora for the distribution of water differentiated from the water supply in the city were detailed, so that this water can supply 50% of the green areas of the city. They also seek to promote the structural adaptation of the intervened green areas with solutions based on ecosystemic approaches, adapted to the local context. These solutions promote energy savings and water efficiency.
In turn, LIFE Wood for Future showed the different actions of which the project is composed, highlighting its development in a Mediterranean region such as the municipality of Évora, which promotes the use of local wood resources for construction, carried out in an integrated manner, from the nursery itself to the transformation of poplar wood into structural elements for construction. During the visit, poplar wood characterization tests that are being carried out in the PEMADE laboratory of the USC were also shown.
Likewise, the results and developments of the LIFE EcoTimberCell project, precedent of LIFE Wood for Future, were also shown, which is also committed to construction with wood from local sustainable forest management. For an energy efficient construction with a reduced carbon footprint.
This conference has served to establish contact and synergies with entities that promote LIFE initiatives for action against climate change.
The 9th edition of the LIFE Wood For Future Newsletter is now available, where you can consult the latest news of the project.
