The LIFE WOOD FOR THE FUTURE project has participated in the Sustainable Development Forum of the Guadix Region, held on July 4 at the Mira de Amescua Municipal Theater, presenting the progress of the project and the potential of poplar cultivation and its industrial products as a driving force for the development of the region.
The presentation, which was given by Ana Cruz Valdivieso, professor at the School of Building Engineering of the UGR, was entitled “Agricultural and industrial heritage: poplar as a trigger for a strategy in the region”, within the framework of the “Sectorial Innovation Workshop: a region with an eye to the future”.
Ana Cruz explained how biostructural products with poplar wood are a tool to promote a sustainable industry, as well as a support to the primary and forestry sector, becoming also an element to fight against the demographic challenge.
These conferences were organized by the Provincial Council of Granada, in collaboration with the Directorate General of European Funds of the Ministry of Finance, the University of Granada, the Association of Municipalities of the Region of Guadix and the City Council of Guadix.
The forum is part of the process of updating the Urban Agenda of the Region of Guadix in which the Provincial Council, together with the municipalities, is currently immersed. Some of the initiatives of interest incorporated in the Urban Agenda will become part of a Local Development Strategy for which the provincial entity will request funding from the ERDF, through an upcoming call to be launched by the General Secretariat of European Funds of the Ministry of Finance.
The 9th edition of the LIFE Wood For Future Newsletter is now available, where you can consult the latest news of the project.
