The Ibero-American Union of Municipalists has visited the field of poplar mother vines planted in the provincial nursery of the Diputación de Granada, as part of its INTERNATIONAL TECHNICAL MISSION “SOCIAL INNOVATION AND DEVELOPMENT IN RURAL TERRITORIES”, carried out by the Ibero-American Union of Municipalists (UIM), between June 19 and 25, in different parts of the provinces of Jaén and Granada.
After their arrival, the attendees made a general tour of the provincial nursery, where more than 300 different species are grown, both ornamental and forage, cereals and leguminous plants, to provide the municipalities of the province with specimens for public parks and gardens, with the aim of improving their biodiversity, their urban landscape and the health of their citizens. They then visited the hectare where the plantation of mother stock cuttings of the LIFE WOOD FOR FUTURE project is located and had the opportunity to listen to an explanation by the professor and researcher of the University of Granada, Francisco Rescalvo, about the dual purpose of the plantation: a) to produce certified variants to be used as structural bioproducts for construction; b) to supply the municipalities of the Vega de Granada with plant material of native varieties for the reforestation of rivers.
The 9th edition of the LIFE Wood For Future Newsletter is now available, where you can consult the latest news of the project.
