The Civitas-UGR Chair presented yesterday afternoon the book “Trends and innovation in sustainable construction”, in an event led by the director of the Chair, Mercedes García de Quesada. The presentation, held at the Royal Hospital, headquarters of the Rectorate of the University of Granada, was attended by the following speakers:
– Silvia Montero Martínez, editor of the book.
– Alejandro Ayala, President of the Civitas Group.
– Antonio Díaz Sánchez, Deputy of European Funds, Development, Industry and Employment of the Diputación de Granada.
– Enrique Catalina Carmona, Councilman of Urbanism, Public Works and Licenses.
– Montserrat Zamorano Toro, Vice-rector of Infrastructures and Sustainability of the University of Granada.
Elísabet Suárez, Ana Cruz and Antolino Gallego, members of the LIFE Wood for Future project, have participated in the book as authors in the chapters dedicated to the general bases of sustainability and the use of wood and bamboo as structural materials. The book also incorporates other materials such as straw, sprayed earth, cork, biosphere paint, glazed tiles, water-coated roofs, natural plaster and stucco, and natural fibers. Other aspects of great interest in sustainable construction such as energy efficiency, home automation and building automation are addressed in the monograph. The book has a large and multidisciplinary group of authors, highlighting all the efforts that are being made to achieve a greener and healthier construction.
The Cívitas-UGR Chair is the result of the interaction between business and academia in the areas of sustainability, innovation and training. The Chair works in training and research around two main axes: sustainable construction and structural wood products to reduce the carbon footprint, and in transversal competences for sustainable human development. The Cívitas-UGR Chair has actively collaborated with the LIFE Wood for Future project during its first biennium of activity, co-financing training activities in wood structure calculation as well as sponsoring the I edition of the Premios Fotografía Choperas de Granada organized by the Agrupación Marjal.
