The LIFE Wood for Future project is part of the working group driven and led by the LIFE Resilient Forest project and integrated by eight LIFE projects.
This working group was created to jointly review the European Forest Strategy 2030. Its objective is to share the common challenges faced by Mediterranean forests and to elaborate, from its experience, joint policy recommendations to promote Sustainable Forest Management, seeking to improve the health and resilience of Mediterranean forests, and to increase the ecosystem services they provide to society.
On May 31, the group presented in Brussels the result of two months of work embodied in a policy document: “A step forward in EU forest policy: the Mediterranean perspective”. The event was broadcast online (the recording can be accessed at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lmk86NB9oM) to facilitate attendance for those who could not attend in person, and was attended by representatives of the European Commission, sector associations and EU regional offices.
Representatives of the eight projects presented a set of critical issues facing Mediterranean forest environments that must be addressed in the future to cope with climate change. They then presented a series of policy recommendations that could help to address them. All these contents can be found in the final version of the policy document: “A step forward in EU forest policy: the Mediterranean perspective”.
The 9th edition of the LIFE Wood For Future Newsletter is now available, where you can consult the latest news of the project.
